Josh Bailey - New York, NY
Independent musician, recording artist, arranger and educator... Josh Bailey is a freelance drummer/percussionist who can be seen performing regularly in the New York City area as well as touring both nationally and internationally. Due to client load and success in remote recording, Josh recently joined the staff at the renowned Studio G (Brooklyn). He offers remote or in-person sessions for commercial clients as well as many independent and supported artists/producers. Recent notable sessions from the new studio include: "Beautiful and tragic" & "How I Loved My Cat", two 24-hour albums written and recorded remotely (live streamed) by Adam Neely and Ben Levin; as well a commercial placement (percussion) for Delonghi Coffee (feat. Brad Pitt), and drum/percussion sampling sessions for production duo CuBeatz. Full Discography HERE.
With ties to Nashville as a recording artist, touring musician and producer; he has recorded on and/or co-produced numerous albums, artist singles and EP’s in Nashville and NYC (since 2013). Notably, Josh recorded drums and percussion on the 3rd and 4th season of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt; the score of the 2020 released PS5 videogame "Kena: Bridge of Spirits"; and drums on the release of Stephen Sondheim's "The Flag Song". In 2020, Josh was seen drumming on Saturday Night Live in a digital short with Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennet (2019). As music director and drummer for pop singer Erin Bowman, Josh performed on Good Morning America, and Live! With Kelly and Ryan (2017).
Josh is currently administrative faculty at NYU Steinhardt as the Special Programs Coordinator (Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions) and Adjunct Instructor at NYU Steinhardt - Jazz Studies. Josh also worked with the notable Dafnis Prieto (past mentor) as the final editor of his instructional drumming book "A World of Rhythmic Possibilities - Drumming Lessons and Reflections on Rhythms" (released May, 2016).
He has performed yearly internationally at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival in Cork, Ireland (2017-2019); and more. And has completed two tours of India with New York guitarist Shubh Saran (2020 India tour was also with Adam Neely's Sungazer). Josh has a Masters degree from NYU (2014) in Jazz Instrumental Performance, and two B.M. Undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Classical Percussion Performance from West Chester University.
