Independent musician, recording artist, arranger and educator... Josh Bailey is a freelance drummer/percussionist who can be seen performing regularly in the New York City area as well as touring both nationally and internationally. Josh is currently subbing drums on Broadways "& Juliet", and recently joined the staff at the renowned Studio G (Brooklyn). He offers remote or in-person sessions for commercial clients as well as many independent and supported artists/producers. Recent notable recording sessions and drumming/percussion contributions include: Babylon (Paramount Pictures, 2022), 3rd and 4th season of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Kena: Bridge of Spirits (percussion, 2020 PS5 release), Panera Bread and DeLonghi Coffee commercial campaign. Also notable releases: "Beautiful and tragic" & "How I Loved My Cat", two 24-hour albums written and recorded remotely (live streamed) by Adam Neely and Ben Levin; and drum/percussion sampling sessions for production duo CuBeatz.

 

With high demands in NYC and touring, Josh frequents as a Music Director/Drummer running Ableton backing tracks, contracting bands, arranging shows and live productions as well as running IEM mixes. Recent MD'ing for: Brooke Alexx, Sky Katz, Erin Bowman, Carolyn Miller, Elle Baez, Rachel Bochner, Jenny Kern, Peter Wise and more. Josh was seen drumming on Saturday Night Live in a digital short with Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennet (2019). As music director and drummer for pop singers] Erin Bowman, Josh performed on Good Morning America, and Live! With Kelly and Ryan (2017).

 

Josh was recently administrative faculty at NYU Steinhardt as the Special Programs Coordinator (Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions) and Adjunct Instructor at NYU Steinhardt - Jazz Studies. Josh also worked with the notable Dafnis Prieto (past mentor) as the final editor of his instructional drumming book "A World of Rhythmic Possibilities - Drumming Lessons and Reflections on Rhythms" (released May, 2016).

 

Josh has a Masters degree from NYU (2014) in Jazz Instrumental Performance, and two B.M. Undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Classical Percussion Performance from West Chester University. Josh Bailey endorses Sabian Cymbals and Vic Firth Drumsticks.
